When words crash

I was recently telling my friend Karen Halsey about what I think is an odd word - ‘webinar’ - a seminar on the web. And another stranger combination a ‘prosumer’ – it’s a professional consumer.

Karen’s reaction was this amusing announcement:

Identifying the prosumer in the modern market – a webinar hosted by Yawn, Snooze and Boredom Ltd.

Do join us for a fascinating debate on the relevance of the prosumer. We will be powering up the powerpoint presentation promptly at 3pm and aim to have sapped all the joy out of you by approximately 3.15pm.

For anyone who is still alive there will be a question and answer session hosted by our guest speaker Y. Bother.

So, have you seen any unusual word combinations?

When you give someone a polite smile or acknowledgment you 'SMOD' - Smile and Nod

Also when you join a Hen night and a Stag night together (on purpose or accidently, including with people you don't know!!) - it's a Hag Night!

Well, it's actually a rude word so I don't think I'd be allowed to say it on this blog.  I find it hilarious though.  It's a word which best describes an annoying person.  The word is n*b-rash.  LOL

I used the word 'searchability' today and I think it might be something I created??

Liger. It's a cross between a lion and a tiger and it's pretty much my favourite animal.

My former (French) boss used to swear "co-opetition" was a word.  It's when you work in co-operation with a competitor.

I caught myself saying 'supercool' a few times which we've decided is bad use of tautology here at work.

Related to the weblog comment, recently I saw something on a DJ's website called a 'moblog' (http://moblog.co.uk/) - blogging on the move using phone technology. Where to next?

I wouldn't exactly describe it as strange, but keeping with the theme or "web" I would say "weblog" which is commonly known as "blog".

One combination of words that is irritating to hear is "guessimate"...see if you can figure it out!!!
